The illicit Happiness of Others, by Manu Joseph. A+ novel by a hilarious novelist we were treated to at...the J Lit Fest! The story he tells and the way he tells it are both masterful. Smart and funny, a great combination.
The File, by Timothy Garton Ash, tells the harrowing story of a British citizen who lived in East Germany for a while during the Cold War, who comes back to claim the file on him compiled by the Stasi, the East German secret police. Abba & S saw him at Lit Fest, and his motto is: Live like the Stasi are watching
Season of the Rainbirds, Nadeem Aslam. Another Jaipur Lit Festival attendee with a great piece of fiction. Set in 1980s small town in Pakistan, shows the universality of small towns, and daily life in that part of the world at that time.
Purple Hibiscus, by Chimamanda Adichie. Riveting coming-of-age story set in Nigeria, by the author of Half of a Yellow Sun.
The Case of the Deadly Butter Chicken, by Tarquin Hall One of 3 well-written detective novels set in India.
